- OLD TOWN -
The Old Town, the part of the city where it all began. At the top of a part of the ancient volcano was the famous Edinburgh Castle build. The place to defend the city from the English intruders. Now it's a tourist attraction. But the Old Town has much more to offer than only the Castle: walk to the Grassmarket with all it's pubs, shop at the Royal Mile or walk down to the Palace of Holyrood House, the Queen's residence when she is in town.

(c) www.picturesofedinburgh.com Deacon Brodie was an important figure in the city in the 18th century. But he lived a 'double-life'. During the day he was a politician, at night a criminal. In 1788 he was hanged on the Grassmarket. At the Royal Mile (Lawnmarket) you can visit Deacon Brodie's Tavern.

(c) www.picturesofedinburgh.com Cockburn Street. Located between the Royal Mile and Waverley Bridge. Typical 'Old Town Street' with high buildings and a couple of close's. In one of them you could find Chez Janine back then. It's closed now but it was a nice French restaurant.

At that time she was a single mother without a job. The Elephant House is popular by students and has a stunning view of the Castle in the back.
