Deacon Brodie
was an important figure in the city in the 18th century. But he lived a
'double-life'. During the day he was a politician, at night a criminal.
In 1788 he was hanged on the Grassmarket. At the Royal Mile (Lawnmarket)
you can visit Deacon Brodie's Tavern.

The famous Royal
Mile. It is the artery of Old Town, starting on Castle Rock and ending at
The Palace of Holyrood House.

Cockburn Street.
Located between the Royal Mile and Waverley Bridge. Typical 'Old Town Street'
with high buildings and a couple of close's. In one of them you could find
Chez Janine back then. It's closed now but it was a nice French restaurant.

The Elephant House: a
cosy coffeeshop on George IV Bridge. It's the place where J.K. Rowling started
writing her big-selling Harry Potter books. At that time she was a single
mother without a job. The Elephant House is popular by students and has
a stunning view of the Castle in the back.

On George IV
Bridge you can get your nose, ear or whatever you want pierced by Joe. Why
not? It's only five pounds.

From Scott Monument
you have a beautiful view over the city. Looking to the south there's the
outstanding Old Town as you can see on this picture. You can see Waverley
